Willus.com's Web Page Log

10-12-08 Ten year anniversary!
11-11-05 I added a blog on making an FM dipole antenna for my Sirius Satellite Radio FM transmitter.
3-23-05 My web hoster's server went down a couple of days ago and had to be restored from a 3-19-05 backup. That is why my site has been off line. There is more on my web site info page.
2-19-05 I've been putting a fair amount of effort lately into my wdpv.exe and cropit.exe programs on my Software Archive page. I have received a number of positive e-mails about wdpv.exe, which used to be rsdpv.exe.
1-2-05 I've made a few updates to my pages over the holidays. I re-vamped the MinGW Tips page, added an E-waste blog, and updated some of the compiler info pages. I also updated my computing timeline page.
11-21-03 I put up an explanation of why I switched from Prentice-Internet on my about willus.com page.
11-16-03 Fixed my CSS style files not to reference some files that kept resulting in 404 errors in my web log. That's odd to me since none of my HTML files should be using the CSS elements that reference the missing files. But I completely removed the elements from the CSS files, so the problem is hopefully solved.
11-14-03 My site has moved to a new server hosted by CWI Hosting. I ended up having some problems dealing with my old hoster, Prentice-Internet. I'll put more about it on my about willus.com page soon.
10-18-03 Divided my home page into three categories.
10-18-03 Removed all traces (hopefully) of my e-mail address from the web site and replaced them with an e-mail form so as to hide my e-mail address from spambots. I will soon change my actual e-mail address since the current one receives about 100 spam e-mails per day.
9-21-03 Added a Fight the RIAA page to provide people with links to some resources for fighting the RIAA. This is mostly prompted by the recent RIAA lawsuits against individuals such as the 12-year-old NY girl who lives in public housing.
2-9-03 I gave my Win32 C/C++ Compilers page a new, more useful format.
1-15-03 I added a new Computing Timeline page to my web site. This is something I've been maintaining privately for several years, and I decided I may as well make it available to others.
12-2-02 I re-did some of my lesser accessed pages: About the author, About willus.com, AOL Users, and this web log page itself so that they are more consistent with my current graphical theme.
9-14-02 I now have my home page showing the date of last modification for each of the major pages so that users can see at a glance what I have worked on most recently.
9-2-02 Re-organized my useful links page.
8-14-02 Added several useful programs to my Software Archive, including a 3D STL file viewer, a utility to set your PC's clock, a unix-like "which" command, an update to wdir which adds a useful -sum option, and others.
8-8-02 Made various small tweaks to the site. Added C Tutorial to useful links page. Updated Win32 C/C++ Compilers page and 2002 Win32 Compiler Benchmarks page (renamed slightly). Some other minor stuff.
7-28-02 My internet service provider, Prentice, finally upgraded my account to a server that can handle a better web e-mail program. It also seems faster, but it has broken a couple of my scripts. Most notably, the Win32 Compiler Comparison. I should have it fixed on Monday.
6-7-02 I got a new digital camera, and I've started a camera comparison page to show it off.
5-18-02 Added a 2.2 GHz Pentium-4 Xeon result to my Win32 Compiler Comparison, and updated the Cygwin paragraph on the Win32 C/C++ Compilers page.
4-16-02 Added Comeau Computing to my Win32 C/C++ Compilers page.
3-2-02 Gave my main pages more consistent titles. Also fixed my Pentium 4 Performance benchmark link on my useful links page. Added a link to an Intel and gcc compiler discussion thread on my Win32 C/C++ Compilers page.
2-10-02 Added a Google search prompt to my home page.
1-30-02 Finally got my Win32 Compiler Comparison page up. Whew.
1-28-02 Updated the RSXNT download page to have a simpler, smaller distribution because that distribution is now resulting in web traffic of 1 GB/week for my site as of this month. The downloads are growing alarmingly fast. I may eventually have to disable it completely.
1-14-02 Modified my Watcom C/C++ comments according to an e-mail I received.
12-30-01 Added CDex link to my useful software page, and I put up P3 and P4 optimized versions of lame.exe using Intel's v5 compiler. I will eventually put up some lame.exe benchmarks.
12-15-01 Added wmp3.exe (a batch mp3 converter) to my software archive. Added a new page of computing links, made some minor updates to my C/C++ compiler page, updated my useful Win32 software page (now includes command line version of lame.exe), and changed my outdated Fuji MX-700 link to a link to Steve's Digicams page, which is an excellent digital camera review site. Finally, I compressed a lot of the .exe's on my archive page with UPX. They're pretty tiny now.
11-23-01 Added a couple more updates (lcc and Intel) to my Win32 C/C++ page, and added UPX to my Win32 utils page. Still need to add my recently compiled L.A.M.E. package.
11-10-01 Added Paul Hsieh's Watcom page to my Win32 C/C++ compiler links.
11-4-01 I updated my C/C++ compiler page again--Digital Mars, Borland's new free compiler, and the Cygwin compiler, plus I updated my RSXNT install instructions by adding instructions for NT/2000/XP users.
10-28-01 I finally fixed my .shtml files so that my web pages now correctly show the last modified date. Now you can legitimately see when I have last modified various pages. I also updated my Win32 C/C++ Compilers page.
7-16-01 It's been a while since I made an entry. I am still actively maintaining my site and most recently have updated the Win32 C/C++ Compilers page and the AOL disclaimer page. I ought to re-vamp my "about this site" page, but that'll have to wait for another time. I've also got more software I want to add to the archive. Again... another day.
10-11-00 Things seem settled down now on my new server. I'm used to bash, I solved my e-mail return address problem, and Prentice has been pretty helpful in solving other problems for me, so I'm happy. Certainly for the price I'm paying, I can't complain.
10-8-00 Today I fixed my news page (this page that you're reading) so that it is autogenerated from a script. It's now much easier to maintain. I'm also getting settled into my new server, though there are some disappointments. I can no longer use tcsh (I am forced to use bash). That's not so bad, but I also am having my return address reported incorrectly when I send e-mail using linux "mail," which is annoying.
10-5-00 Prentice-Internet switched willus.com to a different server today which will allow me to publish secure (SSL) web pages. Also, I added wdir.exe to the software archive.
7-23-00 Switched to .shtml (SSI) files on my major pages so that they can display automated headers and footers with time-stamp information.
7-5-00 Added link to useful Win32 software.
7-4-00 Added link to picture of what I work on to the author page.
7-1-00 Added Win32 C/C++ Compilers link.
12-2-99 Updated software archive page. Added Contour program. Reformatted web log with different font size and face.
4-8-99 Updated message about AOL to give instructions about how to fix the problem (thanks to my brother).
3-5-99 Updated software archive page. Added Eval expression evaluator program. I notice that willus.com now points to the new 209.224.109.50 IP number.
2-27-99 Set up the main willus.com pages to transfer control to the new server that Prentice-Internet put me on: 209.224.109.50. They are supposed to switch my domain name over to this IP number in the near future.
1-24-99 Added States and Capitals program to software archive.
10-12-98 Willus.com is born (15 days after Google.com!).
